National Football League Champions

  • This page consists of the following table: Table 1 - The Pro Football Champions sorted by number of Championships.
  • From 1920 to 1932, the NFL Champion was the team with the best winning percentage.
  • From 1933 to 1966, the NFL Champion was determined by a Championship Game.
  • After 1966, the NFL Champion went on to play the AFL Champion in the Super Bowl.
  • The two leagues (NFL and AFL) merged in 1969 (beginning play in the 1970 season) forming the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. The champion of the NFC and the AFC then play each other in the Super Bowl for the NFL Championship.
  • The year indicated in the following table is the year of the season, not necessarily the calendar year of the playoff game.
